61. CAPT. URIAH5 SEYMOUR (//[[020.John|John]]//4,
//[[008.John|John]]//3, //[[003.John|John]]//2,
//[[001.Richard|Richard]]//1), born 1 Sept. 1733, recorded at New
Hartford, Conn., died at New Hartford, 25 June 1800, buried in the Colonial
Cemetery, Derby, Conn.; married first, at New Hartford, about 1756, ELIZABETH
ANDRUS, who died before 1760; married second, at Hartford, 20 Jan. 1760, MARY
HOPKINS, who died at New Hartford, 2 Nov. 1811 aged 78, quite probably widow of
Aaron5 Hopkins. [Hopkins Genealogy, p. 42.]
He was one of the first settlers of New Hartford, and a prominent citizen. He
and his wife owned the Covenant at the church there, 16 May 1756. He was
appointed Surveyor of Lands in the County of Litchfield, in 1765. He was
commissioned Lieutenant of the Troop of Horse in the 15th Regt., Oct. 1773, and
Lieutenant of the Troop in the 18th Regt., Oct. 1774. He marched from New
Hartford, as Lieut. in Capt. Seth Smith's Co., in response to the Lexington
Alarm, and commanded a company in Major Sheldon's Regt. of Light Horse, 1776. He
also turned out with his company to repel Tryon's raid on Danbury, in April
1777. He was appointed, 7 Nov. 1782, member of a Committee to report on the best
place for a road and bridge over Mad River, Winchester. He and Uriah, Jr., were
original proprietors of Grand Isle (North and South Hero), Vt., 27 Oct. 1779.
Inventory of the estate of Uriah Seymour, late of New Hartford, who died 25 June
1800, taken 15 Sept. 1800 and presented at court 16 Sept. 1800; amount,
$1274.90. Chauncey Seymour, administrator of the estate of Uriah Seymour,
presented the account 13 Dec. 1808. Estate ordered to be divided among the
children equally, viz. - Uriah Seymour, Polly Hopkins, Chauncey Seymour,
Sylvester Seymour, Constantine Seymour, Abner Seymour, and Elizabeth Merrills((the book says "Merrells", but the original document is clearly "Merrills")).
Uriah's widow was Mary Seymour.

URIAH6 SEYMOUR, baptized 22 Mar. 1757, served in Capt. James Judson's
Co. of Light Horse, under Lieut.-Col Thomas Seymour, in the summer of 1776. He
was listed in the Census of 1790 as "Seamore" in Whitestown, N.Y., with a family
of two males over 16 years, one male under 16 and two females. His family has
not been traced, but attention is called to the family of Lyman Seymour of
Pompey, Onondaga. Co., N.Y., and Sodus, Wayne Co., N.Y. The wife of
Uriah6 was Dorcas Ensign, and Lyman had a son Uriah and a daughter
Dorcas. It is believed that Lyman and his two known brothers may have been sons
of Uriah6.
