born at New Hartford, Conn., 14 July 1781, died at
Piermont, N.Y., 12 Aug. 1844; married first, MARY COOK; married second, Dec.
1834, PHEBE FITCH, born 18 Aug. 1798, died 4 Nov. 1843, daughter of Ebenezer
Root and Sarah (Dow).
He was a machinist, and lived in Trenton and Westmoreland, afterwards at Utica,
N.Y. He was commissioned Lieutenant of Oneida County Militia, 1811. He founded
the Hecla Iron Works in \Vestmoreland, afterwards carried on by his sons.

**AUGUSTUS SHERRILL8 SEYMOUR** (1836-1897) was graduated from Hamilton College,
Clinton, N.Y., July 1857, and from Prof. Theodore Dwight's Law School, 1858. He
settled in Newbern, N. C; where he practised his profession. He was a member of
the N.C. House of Representatives, 1868, 1869, and 1870; elected to the
Constitutional Convention in 1871; State Senator, 1872, 1873, and 1874. He was
appointed Judge of the Criminal Court of the City of Newbern in 1868; resigned
same year. He was elected Judge of the Superior Court in 1874.
