This canvas was deposited with the Connecticut Historical Society, July 10, 1885, by Captain Ellery's great-great-granddaughter, Miss Mary Ellery Seymour, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Governor Seymour's sister, who at the same time presented the portrait of her great-great-grandmother Jane Bonner (1691-1739). Their son John Ellery married Mary Austin; their son William Ellery (1740-1812) married Susanna Keith (1740-1768); their daughter Jane Ellery (1766-1851) married Major Henry Seymour (1764-1846) and became mother of Governor Thomas H. Seymour. Size of this canvas, 29 1/2 x 30; artist unknown.
