Founder and First Warden of St. Stephen's College, Annandale, Dutchess Co., N.Y.; Professor of Ecclesiastical History in the General Theological Seminary, New York City; Dean of the same; consecrated first Bishop of Springfield, Illinois, 11 June 1878. The author once asked the Rt. Rev. John Williams, 4th Bishop of Connecticut, to define a "high churchman." The instant reply was: "A high churchman, sir, is one who thinks highly of the church."
