Luther YOCUM & Charlotte ""Lottie" COWELL

Father: Luther YOCUM, b. ABT 1880, Carrolton Kentucky, d. 26 May 1928, Greene County Missouri

Luther and his young family are living in Greene County Missouri in Murray township. in 1920. Luther is 40 and Charlotte is 25. Walter is not on the census but perhaps he passed away or is with a grandparent. Although a look at Missouri State Archives death certificates shows no Walter who is passed away as a child at all , in fact there is no death of Walter Yocum at all in Missouri. Luther's birthplace is probably Carrolton Kentucky as on his son Charles's death certificate it says Luther Yocom, born Carrolton. There is a Carrolton Missouri however, on the 1920 Census Luther indicates he was born in Kentucky. Luther's own death date comes from his death certificate online at the Missouri State Archives. His full certificate is not online as of yet however, he seems to be the only Luther Yocom in Greene County at that time and he can't be located alive on the 1930 Census.

Mother: Charlotte ““Lottie” COWELL, (daughter of William H COWELL), b. ABT 1896, Lawrence County Missouri, d. 9 Apr 1945, Ash Grove Greene County Missouri, bur. Kelley Cemetery Greene County Missouri

Probably named for William Cowell mother, Charlotte Duff as Lottie is a short nickname for Charlotte. There is a World Connect file for her however the birth year of 1892 is incorrect as on the 1920 Census she is 25 and in 1910 she is 14, making her birth year around 1896. Lottie was born in Lawrence County Missouri according to the death certificate of her son Charles in 1918.in Greene County Missouri. Also on that death certificate the informant is WH Cowell who is Lottie's father and this death certificate makes that definite connection to Charlotte “Lottie” Cowell Yokum or as is sometimes spelled Yocom. I have taken the death date of Charlotte from a World Connect file, however oddly on the Missouri State Archives there is no record of her death anywhere in Missouri between 1910 and 1955. It could be she died elsewhere or remarried under another name and was buried in Ash Grove,, Greene County Missouri.
