William J SULLIVAN & Grace A COWELL

Father: William J SULLIVAN

This man owned a Chevrolet dealership and had a home in Ward Parkway. Julia Cowell his mother in law was the nanny for his children and lived at the Ward Parkway house after the death of his wife Grace.

Mother: Grace A COWELL, (daughter of Albert Isaac COWELL), b. Mar 1896, Lawrence County Missouri, d. Jan 1934, Jackson County Missouri

Grace was living with her mother Julia Cowell and sister Bertha May in 1920 Census Jackson County Missouri. There is also a girl there named Loraine Cowell listed as a 10 year old sister. This particular girl is a bit of a mystery as none of Julia Cowell's grandchildren that I spoke with Mary Jane Barnes or Shirley Yerkowsky recalled this sister at all. Perhaps she died young and was not mentioned or was taken in and considered a child on the census although it must be pointed out that Loraine's info about her parents has the appropriate info on where Julia and Albert Cowell were born. In 1920 Census Grace lists her marital status as divorced. None of the grandchildren recalled this either but by the time most of them were born Grace had been long divorced and probably this would not have come up among them, it it was an unpleasant situation Grace may have never spoken of it. Her marriage to William Sullivan is documented on Jackson County Missouri marriages website and she marries him under her maiden name of Grace Cowell. Updated info also Grace's first marriage is in Jackson County Missouri to a man named Thomas Hayes in 1916.
