JUDGE OF THE SUPERIOR COURT 1855-1862;

ELEVATED TO THE SUPREME COURT OF ERRORS 1870;

CHIEF JUSTICE 1873-1874.

Owing to the Constitutional limitations of age, Judge Seymour retired in 1874.
From 1876 till his death he delivered an annual course of lectures at the Yale
Law School. An active member of the Protestant Episcopal Church, he was a
delegate to every General Convention from 1868 to his death. Trinity gave him a
degree of LL.D. in 1861 and Yale in 1873. His father, [[148.ozias|Ozias Seymour]],
son of [[075.moses|Major Moses]], was for many years Sheriff of Litchfield County.
