115. (DEACON) WILLIAM6 SEYMOUR (William5, John4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at New Hartford, Conn., 15 Nov. 1754, died at Pomfret, N.Y., 22 Dec. 1841 and buried in Old Fredonia Cemetery, Pomfret, Chautauqua County, N.Y.; married at Stillwater, N.Y., 20 Mar. 1783, SARAH PATRICK, born 24 Oct. 1765, died 22 Mar. 1847, daughter of Deacon William and Elizabeth (Campbell).
He enlisted Mar. 1776 under Capt. Aaron Austin, Col. Burrell's Regt., Conn., and was discharged for illness, Oct. 1776; drafted Apr. 1777 under Capt. John Strong, Col. Burrell's Regt., and served as fifer; drafted Aug. 1778 under Capt. Nehemiah Lawrence, Col. Burrell's Regt. He removed to Canaan, Conn., in 1778, and remained there about one year, then removed to Stillwater, N.Y. in 1780 he enrolled as a volunteer in Capt. John Thompson's Co., Col. John McCrea's Regt., N.Y. Militia, serving until the Fall of 1783. He lived near the “Yellow Meeting House” in Stillwater many years, was a blacksmith by trade, Town Clerk, 1803, 1806-7, 1821-4, 1826, and was for ten or fifteen years Clerk of the Congregational Society there. In 1836 he removed to Pomfret, Chautauqua County, N.Y.
