Father: Donald MCDONALD, (son of John MCDONALD), b. ABT 1782, Denoon Glammis, d. 19 Oct 1855, Glamis Angus Scotland
Familysearch ancestral file. states Donald was born in Old Mains. Note Old Mains is the area formerly known as Straithmartine and is now called Straithmartine and Mains However on his death certificate it looks like Denoon Glamis is listed as place of birth, Parents proved on death certificate as John McDonald and Emilie McDonald sometimes listed as Amelia. .The index confirms this as Donalds place of birth and indeed Denoon is a village in Glamis. Birth record date of 1787 is a little different than when , Grandpa Donald's age is given as 69 in 1851 Census making his birth year closer to 1782. In 1841 census same area Hayston Glamis he gives his age as 55 making his birth year around 1786. When he dies in 1855 he gives his age as 74 which would make his birth year in 1782, I have used that date on his individual record. . Marriage date for Isabel Malcolm and Donald is Aug 4 1805 Kettins parish Angus Scotland..Marriage info direct from parish record Kettins. 1805. “Donald McDonald in this parish and Isabel Malcom in the parish of Dundee proclaimed pro 1mo, 2do, and 3tio, Augt. 4th.” Donald was a labourer . Donald dies on Oct 19 1855 and cause of death lists no medical attendant which means he died before a doctor could be called and there were no ongoing symptoms that the family reported. He probably died of a heart attack or stroke in his sleep. . He dies in Cottertown of Hayston. which is in Glamis parish and he is listed as buried in Glamis churchyard. Interestingly only in 1855 does a death certificate detail issue or children , showing how old they are in 1855 and if they predeceased Donald.According to this , it appears that out of 10 children only two boys Peter and John were still alive in 1855, Maybe Alexander lived , it says his age is blurred in the crease of the document. While daughter Isabel does not have a dec by her name, it lists her as 9. IF she had lived until 1855 she is nowhere near 9 years old , she was born in 1819 which would make her 36 years old. probably she died at 9 and they forgot to put a dec by her name or it was illegible as such.Other children of Isabel Malcolm and Donald McDonald have their death dates verfied by Donald's death certificate.Donald on 1834 Scotland census below entire census Glamis Parish Heads of Families in the Parish of Glamis in Communion with the Church of Scotland, December 1834. Note all names were included for future reference if any turn out to be later ancestors.and this list may disappear from online. Donald can be located among the few families in Hayston parish. Mother: Isabel MALCOLM, (daughter of John MALCOLM), b. 1788, Old Mains Angus Scotland, d. Aft 1841 prior to 1851
Only an about date is available for Isabel Malcolm's birth year around 1788. She is also listed as having been born in Old Mains.on a Family Search ancestral file. She is listed in Hayston Hill Glammis Scotland with her husband Donald McDonald in 1841 census. She is listed at that time as 55 years old making her born around 1786 not far off the ancestral file about date on Family Search submission. However new info from the Tay Valley Historical society confirms that she does not live beyond 1851 as she is not on this census at all and her husband Donald is listed as a 69 year old widower living with his son Peter and family. Therefore an about date of death can now read later than 1841 prior to 1851. Her parentage is the best possible as no death certificate is available and her marriage listing in parish gives no parents listed. Best possible is based on area, and other excellent clues. John Malcolm and Isabel Patterson are married in Dundee where Isabel is listed as from on her parish marriage record. Also the name Patterson is later chosen by a grandchild Andrew Paterson as a middle name. and also another grandchild John Paterson McDonald is born with that middle name. However, her parents may also be a couple named William Malcolm and Christian Smart who also have daughters named Helen and Isabel. While there is no middle name connection as with Paterson, Isabel does name an older son William. Also Helen Malcolm listed as being born to John Malcolm and Isabel Patterson marries a man named Peter Croll. Isabel Malcolm names a child Peter Croll, which would have been in honoring her brother in law, Helen's husband and this was very, very commonly done. So many clues fit the couple of Isabel Paterson and John Malcolm as being her parents.
