David MCDONALD

David MCDONALD, (son of Peter Croll MCDONALD), b. 15 Jul 1846, Glamis Angus Scotland, d. 1907, Texas County Missouri

This is Daniel's half brother and the son of Peter McDonald AND Margaret Stewart McDonald. This is the first McDonald brother to come to the United States. His birth year fluctates a great deal like his brothers thoughout the years, which is the norm for genealogy and folks at this time. . The record at FamilySearch gives his date of birth as Dec 1 1846. On his first census appearance in Hayston Glamis Forfarshire Scotland (later Angus) in 1851 he is 5 years old making the 1846 date a perfect match. In 1861 in the same house, he is fourteen years old, making it either right on or a year off depending on when that census was taken It is in later census for 1900 that he gives his estimated age as 59 and his birth year as 1840. However, the year of 1840 is nearly impossible for his birth year as in the 1841 Census located for his parents, brother Donald(Daniel) and little Alexander he is not yet born. Later on his tombstone, he is listed as 63 years old at the time of his death in 1907. This would make his birth year 1844. Most likely the 1846 is right on the money as it adds up closer to his first census appearance as a child. This brother states on the 1900 Census, that he came to the US as early as 1871 making him the first McDonald of this family that we know of to immigrate. He gives his citizenship date as 1877. Family story has him living in several areas, Columbus Ohio. and he also is said to have lived in Chicago with his brother Andrew and finally resides with William McDonald in Summerville, Texas County Missouri, where he shows up on the 1900 census at the stated age of 59 years old. He gives his occupation as a farmer. He is said to have never married and indeed on the 1900 Census he does not list status as widower but as single. In 1907 he passes away and is buried in the same Bethel Cemetery(in Carroll Missouri in Texas County, Missouri) as his brother William, sister in law Anna and a niece and nephew are buried. David has no known issue.
