14. Matthew Seymour

14. MATTHEW4 Seymour (Matthew3, Thomas2, Richard1), of Ridgefield, Conn., born at Norwalk, Conn. about 1690 and baptized in the church at Fairfield, Conn, 7 Oct. 1694, died at Ridgefield 30 Apr. 1768, in his 77th year. He married at Ridgefield, 14 June 1722, HANNAH SMITH, baptized at Milford, Conn., 24 Oct. 1703, living in 1766, when her husband made his will daughter of Thomas3 (John2, John1) and Hannah (Camp).

Matthew Seymour was a resident of Ridgefield as early as 1716, according to a deed in which his father Matthew of Norwalk, who was one of the proprietors of Ridgefield, gave to the son all right to all his lands in Ridgefield. In his will dated 26 June 1766 and proved 7 June 1768, Matthew Seymour names wife Hannah, daughter Hannah Keeler and sons Matthew and Thomas Seymour. To his wife Hannah he bequeaths the “use and Improvement of my Negro Girl named Ellin1) During the Natural Life of my sd Wife,” after which said-negro girl is given to the testator's daughter, Hannah Keeler. To his son Matthew, “on account of his Birth Right,” he gives five acres of meadow land which he hath in part cleared.

2. Jeremiah b. 6 Dec. 1766; m. 20 Mar. 1792, Sarah St. John.
3. Hannah, b. 14 July 1770.
4. Thaddeus, b. 28 June 1778; m. Esther St. John, sister of the wife of his brother Jeremiah.
