39. ANDREW5 SEYMOUR (Samuel4, Matthew3, Thomas2, Richard1), born May 1734, died at Norwalk, New Canaan Parish, Conn., 17 Dec. 1773; “Andrew Seymour after a surgical operation by Dr. Townsend was in a hopeful way: but taken on the 9th day after of a fever, died in a week – 40 y.”; married at New Canaan, 15 Jan. 1756, SARAH3 CRISSEY, born at Stamford, Conn., 9 Oct. 1735, died at New Canaan, 26 July 1804, daughter of Nathaniel2 (John1) and Hannah (Hoyt).

Inventory of the estate of Andrew Seymour late of Norwalk, dec'd, taken by Samuel Hanford and David St. John and exhibited at Court 17 Feb. 1774. On 25 Apr. 1776, division of the estate of said Andrew Seymour ordered to be made between the widow and children. After widow's thirds are set off, the estate is to be divided into eight equal parts, of which the eldest son shall have two-eighths and each of the other children one-eighth; and whereas Nathaniel, one of the children, a minor, under age and unmarried, has died since said Andrew, the remaining one-eighth shall be divided among his brothers and sisters.

SAMUEL6, b. 21 Sept. 1756; d. at Walton, Delaware Co., N.Y., 23 Jan. 1834; m. at Norwalk, Conn., 7 Feb. 1774, ANNA5 WHITNEY, b. at Norwalk, 10 Apr. 1756, d. at Walton, N.Y., 14 Mar. 1835, dau. of David4 (Joseph3, John2, Henry1) and Elizabeth (Hyatt). Twelve children. Samuel served in the Revolutionary War, enlisting as a Private in the Fall of 1776 and serving until the end of the war.
ii. JOHN, b. 7 Nov. 1758; d. 18 Apr. 1830; removed from New Canaan, Conn., to Genoa, Cayuga Co., N.Y., 1812; m. at Norwalk, Conn., 1 Feb. 1786, RUTH LAWRENCE, b. 6 Oct. 1768, d. 1 Apr. 1860. Ten children. [ One of whom is Betsey, b. abt. 1788 in CT; m. Richard DUNNING ]
iii. ANN, b. 12 Sept. 1760; d. 25 Apr. 1784; m. at New Canaan, Conn., 5 Sept. 1783, CAPT. SAMUEL5 HOYT (Samuel4, Jonathan3, Samuel2, Simon1), b. at Stamford, 21 Oct. 1752, d. at Darien, Conn., 30 Dec. 1832, s. of Capt. Samuel4 (Jonathan3, Samuel2, Simon1) and Deanah (Hanford). He served in the Revolution at Monmouth, N.J., and Yorktown, Va. He m. (2) Nov. 1784, Mary Hait, and (3) 19 Nov. 1820, Betsy Bates.
iv. SARAH, b. 12 Feb. 1763; d. 4 Dec. 1831; m. at New Canaan, 10 June 1790, CALEB6 BENEDICT, b. 5 Apr. 1762, d. at Walton, N.Y., 24 Sept. 1822, s. of Caleb5 (Caleb4, John3, John2, Thomas1) and Deborah (St. John).
v. ANDREW, b. 4 Jan. 1765; d. 24 Jan. 1844; res. Malta, N.Y.; m. at New Canaan, 9 June 1791, HANNAH5 KELLOGG, b. 30 Apr. 1772, d. 8 Dec. 1848, dau. of Isaac4 (Gideon3, Samuel2, Daniel1) and Hannah (Fitch). Twelve children, of whom Harmon7 (1809-1892) was father of Rev. Edward8 (1834-1911), a graduate of Trinity College and an Episcopal minister.
vi. JARED, b. 4 May 1766; d. 19 Feb. 1833; res. New Canaan, Conn., and Stockbridge, Mass.; m. at Stamford, Conn., 20 Sept. 1787, ABIGAIL SEELEY, b. 28 Aug. 1765, d. 26 Jan. 1845, dau. of Abijah. Eight children. He and members of his family are buried in the cemetery at Housatonic in the town of Great Barrington.
vii. NATHANIEL, b. 25 Mar. 1769; d. 24 Mar. 1775.
viii. JAMES, bapt, 5 Sept. 1772, “being sick-since dead”: “child” d. 2 July 1773.

HORATIO WINSLOW9 SEYMOUR (Andrew Milliken8, Lewis7, John6, Andrew5, Samuel4, Matthew3, Thomas2, Richard1), born at Genoa, Cayuga County, N.Y., 29 July 1854; educated in the public schools of Racine, Wis., learned the printers' trade in Racine; was city editor of the Milwaukee News, 1873-5; on the Chicago Times was telegraph editor, 1875- 9; and night editor, 1879-83; on the Chicago Herald was editorial writer, 1883-7, and editor and managing editor, 1887-95; on the consolidation of the Times and Herald, he became editor and publisher in 1895 of the Chicago Chronicle Company. He married at Racine, 31 Jan. 1876, Annie Eleanor Jones, born in Wales, 1 Jan. 1854, and had three daughters.
