EZRA5 SEYMOUR (Thomas4, Matthew3, Thomas2, Richard1), of New Canaan, Conn., baptized at New Canaan, 19 June 1748, died at New Canaan in 1815; married first, at New Canaan, 23 Nov. 1769, ABIGAIL5 WATERBURY, born at Stamford, Conn., 15 Apr. 1746, daughter of Nathaniel4 (John3, Jonathan2, John1) and Rebecca (Holly); married second, SARAH (–) HANFORD.
Will of Ezra Seymour of New Canaan dated 30 Nov. 1815, proved 18 Dec. 1815. My wife Sarah and her daughter Sally Hanford have manufactured one carpet, also coverlid, which they are to have, also a quantity of yarn for one bed tick, and geese feathers now in my house, not used in the beds. To daughter Abigail Seymour; to children of my deceased daughter Levina Belden late wife of Azor Belden; to daughter Sybil wife of William Wheeler. My sons Ezra Seymour, Jr., and Henry Seymour, and daughters Hannah wife of Anthony Creal, Betty Comstock late wife of Nathan S. Comstock, but now deceased, Nancy wife of Matthew F. Gregory, and Rebecca wife of Frederick Ayres, have received their shares. To son Holly, the rest of estate.
Administration upon the estate of Abigail Seymour, late of New Canaan deceased, granted to Holly Seymour of New Canaan, 21 Dec. 1815.1) Division of the estate of Abigail Seymour late wife of Ezra Seymour ordered 9 Feb. 1816. Each of the following received $125.30, viz.– Hannah wife of Anthony Creal, Ezra Seymour, Henry Seymour, heirs of Betty late wife of Nathan S. Comstock, Abigail Seymour, Rebecca wife of Frederick Ayres, heirs of Lavina late wife of Azor Belden, Holly Seymour and Sybil wife of William Wheeler. As the total amount was $12S3, the record has omitted one heir, viz.–Nancy wife of Matthew F. Gregory; see Ezra's will above.
Ezra (son of Ezra and Abigail) “was a farmer, who beyond carrying his produce to market, seldom left home. He was once in Silvermine,2) at a sister's funeral, but was never probably east of said locality, and he had been west as far as North Stamford and north as far as Ridgefield. He was unmarried, lived in primitive simplicity with his sister Abigail, and gave his goods to St. Mark's Church, New Canaan.”
Will of Ezra Seymour of New Canaan, dated 26 Mar. 1839, proved 12 July 1841, bequeathed to sister Abigail Seymour use of house, etc., during her life, after which it is to go to the Protestant Episcopal Church; to said church rest of estate.
