Line, for one year, saw service near Boston and New York, was in the battle of Long Island and retreat from New York, and at Trenton. He was waiter to Lt.-Col. Shepherd, but saw active service. He joined Washington in December; "our shoes being worn out you might mark our footsteps by the blood from our feet." He was discharged Feb. 1777. He was of Plattsburgh, N.Y., in 1818 and 1822, and by 1833 had removed to Burlington, Vt., to reside with his son William.
