The following information comes from 'The Historic Genealogy of the Lowells of America,' by Delmar R. Lowell, Tuttle Co., Rutland, VT, 1899, page 328: 'b. in Amesbury, Mass., 1749, d. at Lamberton, NY June 17, 1823, age 74 years. m. Sally Sloan of Hartford, CT, d. at Lamberton, NY Feb. 3, 1837, age 77 years. Both are buried at Lamberton, NY. According to the Hartford, CT, records, he was in Hartford 1785 and 1794. Their house and all its contents burned in Hartford, CT. After removing from Connecticut, he settled first in Madison Co., NY, then in Oneida, thence in 1817 on to Fredonia, NY, where he spent the last of his life. He, 'Willobe,' was in battle of Lexington from Tolland, 21 days. (Rec. CT in the War of Rev. 1812: p. 23). 'Willabel' was in a Continental Regt., 3rd Co., commanded by Capt. Roger Enos of Windsor, also Elijah Robinson of Stafford. He enlisted May 9, and was discharged Dec 18, 1775. He worked at his trade, blacksmith, in or near Old Hartford, CT, shoeing cavalry horses for the government during the War of the Revolution. 'Willobe' of City and Co. Hartford, CT, bought of Jonathon Caldwell of same place Feb. 23, 1785, consideration L60 L.M., 'a piece or parcel of land on Front St., Hartford, 80 feet front and 120 feet deep, received Warrantee Deed.' (Register of Deeds, Hartford, CT, 16:178). 'Willibe' of the City and Co. of Hartford, CT Nov. 3, 1794, gave a Warrantee Deed to Thomas Lloyd of same place, land on Front St., Hartford, CT, about '1 Rood' and buildings, the same land as above, consideration l750 L.M. (Hartford, CT, Register of Deeds, 19:261).' 'Patriot-Soldiers of 1775-1783: The Veterans of the War for American Independence of Chautauqua County, New York' compiled by Frederick Ward Kates and published by the Jamestown Chapter of the NSDAR, 1981 states, 'His wartime service was in Connecticut troops, beginning with 21 days active duty in April and May 1775 when he marched from the town of Tolland for the relief of Boston. From May 9, 1775 to Dec. 18, 1775 he served in the 3rd company of Col. Joseph Spencer's 2nd Connecticut regiment.' The 1790 Connecticut census lists Willibe Lowell with a household consisting of 4 white males 16 or over, 4 white males under 16 and 3 white females. Willoughby is listed in the 1800 census for Westmoreland, Oneida County, New York (p. 178), with a household consisting of five white males (one under 10, one 10 and under 16, two 16 and under 26, and one 45 and older) and six white females (three under 10, one 10 and under 16, one 16 and under 26, and one 26 and under 45). Next door is Robert Sloan, with one male and one female both 45 and older (likely wife Sally's parents).
