Interestingly, when John Garlington the son who becomes a doctor is an eight year old there is a physician next door, John A McKown in 1860 when he is living with his parents. Perhaps this inspired him or perhaps the man next door even taught him the trade.Note that John's age , his birthplace and his middle initial are consistent throughout all his census's. A refreshing change! This couple is verified as John Lewis Garlington's parents per census from his childhood. It appears from following them in the census's he was their only child. An interesting aside John Lewis Garlington probably got his name from his uncle John Lewis Crawley, who is Nancy Crawley's brother. Nancy Crawley is John Lewis Sr Garlington's mother and therefore this man was named after his uncle bearing his first and middle name.
