George Frederick SEYMOUR Sr & Erna Frances KITCHEN

Father: George Frederick SEYMOUR Sr, (son of Harrison Lafayette SEYMOUR), b. 26 Oct 1890, Kansas City KS, d. 19 Oct 1963, Pawnee Oklahoma

George and Erna obviously met in the neighborhood in Wyandotte County on Pacific Street where they are literally one house apart from one another with George as a 20 year in 1910 with his mother and Dad and Erna is a 14 year old with her parents. . In 1920 Erna and George as a married couple are in the house next door to George's parents Harrison and Elizabeth. living in Wyandotte County at 1620 the Terrace. By this time they are living with their children Helen 7 years old and George 4 years and 11 months. By the time of the 1930 , George and Erna are living on South 15th Street and on the census Helen M is 16 and for some reason on the census by my father's name it says George F. 14, and then son! with an explanation point. My father was one of the few male grandchildren for his grandpa Seymour and that may have been a little joke., Soon after the census the marriage was over as my father says his father and Erna had their last fight when he was 14 years old and his father left to go live with his father. My father stayed less than a month with his mother and went to live with his grandpa and his father. George's second and last wife was a woman named Marie Wallenchec. and I have no idea when or where he married her. I only know that by the time I was around they had moved to Pawnee Oklahoma where they ran a farm. I recall my grandfather as a gentle quiet man and among my few memories of him is a ride on this tractor and that he used to take me into town for these pole candies with stripes that I loved. My father was definitely close to his father . George died of a stroke and he lived for 11 days before he succumbed. He was a stenotyper at a newspaper according to the 1920 Census. He is buried with his second wife Marie. in Pawnee Oklahoma. Oddly the headstone says George E Seymour which is incorrect it should read George F Seymour. The cemetery is Highland Cemetery in Pawnee Oklahoma. Mary is also buried there next to him.

Mother: Erna Frances KITCHEN, (daughter of George L KITCHEN), b. 23 Oct 1895, Missouri, d. 24 Dec 1974, Camden Mo, bur. Green Lawn Cemetery KC Mo

I remember my grandmother quite well as I was in high school when she died. She was a good cook who loved holidays and always paraded us kids on the Plaza at Easter. She had three husband by the time of her death. Her second husband was a man named Max whom she apparently loathed and because of this her third huband Robert Wessley teased her by nicknaming her Max Most people thought her name was Max but it was Erna Frances Kitchen. She told my father she was of Scottish, English and German extraction on her side. Singleton is a very English name and that was her mother's maiden name.. Robert “Buss” and my grandmother bickered constantly but it was a love match as they were both full of energy and he seemed to be the man who finally caught and kept her. They lived in California for a time according to my mother. Late in their lives they moved to a cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks and retired where she passed away in 1974 of acute pulmonary edema and arteriosclerosis. On her death certificate her husband Robert gave her fathers name as Jess which was incorrect as on the census in Wyandotte County when she is 14 her brother is Jess and her father is George. He did not know her mothers name however her mother is listed on the census as Nannie and on the census Nannie's brother is living there and his name is John Singleton making her maiden name Singleton probably.
