THOMAS3 POTTERTON (JOHN2, THOMAS1) was born 1701, and died October 1756 in Rathcormick, Parish of Kildalkey, County Meath, Ireland. He married (1) ??? WILSON. She was born in Crookstown, Ireland. He married (2) SARAH LAMB July 25, 1735 in St. Werburgh, Dublin, Ireland (by Licence by ye Rev'd Mr. Butler).
Thomas death confirmed in the National Archives Index to prerogative wills 1536- 1810 N-Z Ref XX3 - will dated September 22, 1756:
Bequeath to
Son:
Henry Potterton - the Castle and the North holdings, part
of the Mannor of Moyrath and lately held by the widow
of Robert Barnewall,
deceased with all their appertenances and the Ladies Island near Trimblestown on
the
condition that when I depart this life that I will not have five hundred
pounds sterling over and above all debts
and legacies that then the said Henry
Potterton shall pay my daughter Sarah Potterton the sum of five hundred
pounds
sterling on her intermarriage with the consent of Mr. Francis Walker of
Portlester.
Should Henry die without legal male issue then son John Potterton
shall have and enjoy said property under the
condition that Henry shall have
power to leave and demise and bequeth to this female lawful issue if he will
have
any the sum of eight hundred pounds sterling.
I give demise and
bequeath unto my son John Potterton my leasehold interest of the Town and lands
of
Rathcormick, Rathkenna, Corballis and Baskensan? with all the stock and
corn that will be on said lands at the
time of my decease. I also give demise
and bequeath unto my said son John the sum of three hundred pounds
sterling to
be paid to him by three sons Henry, Thomas and Mark Potterton at one hundred
pounds each provided
the interest of the Lease of Rathcormick shall not
continue for the space of six years after my demise and
bequeath unto my son
Thomas Potterton the farm and lands of Balltalion as now held by me with the
stock
thereon at the time of my decease on the condition that if he dies
without issue male lawfully begotten it shall then
go to my said son Henry
Potterton and his issue male lawfully begotten and for want of such issue said
interest of
said lease and farm to go to my son John Potterton and his issue
Male lawfully begotten and for want of issue
Male to go to my son Mark
Potterton and his issue Male lawfully begotton and for want of such issue to go
to my
daughter Sarah Potterton, however my son Thomas Potterton shall have it
in his power to desire and bequeath
unto his female issue if any lawfully
begotton the sum of six hundred pounds sterling also I give and bequeath to
my
son Mark Potterton the Towns and lands of Pagatstown and Hardrestown is held by
me from Mr. Mark Tew
of Raddinstown with the stock on said lands at the time
of my decease on condition that if said Mark Potterton
has no issue Male
lawfully begotton if not to my son John and in case of failure in him to my son
Thomas
however it shall be in his power to charge said lands with the sum of
four hundred pounds sterling for his female
issue lawfully begotton if any I
also give demise and bequeath unto Mr. patrick Lamb of the city of Dublin
Perriwig maker the sum of ten pounds sterling for his good services done me also
I give demise and bequeath to
my sisters Elizabeth Walker and Abigail Wilson
the sum of twenty two pounds fifteen shillings sterling each to
buy mourning.
Also I appoint my son Henry Potterton residuary Legatee and to receive all debts
that may be due
to me at the time of my Decease to reimburse himself for the
cost of my funeral and mourning for his Brothers
and sister. Also nominate
consitute and appoint John Goodman of Trim, Gentleman Francis Walker of
Portlester
Gent and my said son Henry Potterton sole exors of this my last
will and testament hereby disannulling and
making void all former wills or
testaments heretofore by me and made Ratifying and confirming this and no
other
to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set
my hand and affixed my seal the day and
year first within written Thomas
Potterton seal signed sealed pronounced published and declared by the said
Thomas Potterton as his last will and testament in the presence of his William
Grucher Robert Fleetwood Andrew
Plunket.
