129b. MILES6 SEYMOUR (Elijah5, John4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at New Hartford, N.Y., 4 Feb. 1793, died at Battle Creek, Mich., 16 Apr. 1853; married first, ANN SOUTHMAYD; married second, 6 Sept. 1818, MARY KNAPEN, who died at Battle Creek, 12 May 1851.

He learned the blacksmith's trade, and settled in 1815 or 1816 in Ithaca, where he made axes. About 1823 he moved to Syracuse, where he carried on his trade. About 1831 he moved to Skaneateles and was in the employ of John Legg in the carriage business, and a member of the Presbyterian church. About 1843 he moved to Battle Creek, Mich., where he continued in the carriage business.

Lucy Ann was educated at Geneva and was the scholar of the family. She taught before marriage at LeRoy, N.Y., and also at Milwaukee after marriage.

Hoes, D.D., nephew of President Martin Van Buren, and of Maria (Randall), dau. of Gen. Roswell Randall of Cortland and sister of Hon. Henry L. Randall, Sec. of State and author. O. Hoyt Seymour entered Michigan University in 1847, and after three years of study there, graduated from Union College in 1851, and from Union Theological Seminary. After ministries in Deposit and Cortland, his wife and two children died. He resigned and entered the army as Chaplain of the 157th N.Y. Vols., Mar. 1863. He was wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville, but served until the close of the war, July 1865. He was minister four years at Hammondsport, N.Y., eight years at Trumansburgh, N.Y., three years at Onondaga Valley, N.Y., and thereafter at Port Byron, N.Y.
