168. George Seymour

168. GEORGE6 SEYMOUR (Jared5, Thomas4, Thomas3, John2, Richard1), born at Hartford, Conn., 25 Dec. 1754, died there 17 Aug. 1820; married in Jan. 1780, MABEL SPENCER, born 3 Sept. 1755, died at Utica, N.Y., 3 Apr. 1838, daughter of Joseph.

He enlisted at Wethersfield, Nov. 1775, in Capt. Ezekiel Scotfs Co., Col. Samuel Wyllys' Regt, Connecticut Line, and was discharged Sept. 1776 on account of sickness. He was a Conductor (or Captain) of teams in the Commissary Department, 1777-78, and Assistant Commissary in 1781, and purchased and distributed provisions to the Army when it marched from Rhode Island to Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Yorktown.

His aunt, Mrs. Hephzibah Skinner, gave him a large part of her property, including the house she lived in on the south corner of Main and Mill Streets. His widow removed to Utica, N.Y., in 1821.
