Samuel Sands Sands Creek, a tributary of the West Branch, was named for Samuel Sands, the owner of the largest mill on the creek, and one of the largest lumber dealers in that whole territory, rafting his lumber at Hancock. I wonder if he was related to Esther Sands, William Sr.'s first wife, and if he helped set up William Jr. in business.
