Found on the 1850 Census in Casey County Kentucky with his wife Francis , three sons Robert, Wm, Henry and probably William's sister a spinster Mary A. Smith. Per the Bible this man had no daughters only sons so she would not be their daughter , must be a sister or possibly a cousin or niece. Listed under Smith spelling on both census. rather than the correct german spelling of Smyth. Also in an article in in 1911 Wyandotte County History of Wyandotte County it asserts that this man was the man for whom Smyth County Virginia was named. That is incorrect, as the County was named for Alexander Smyth a war hero and an Irishman. The Smyth/ Williams lineage is German on Robert C Smyths side and Scottish on Nancy Wallace Williams. It relates that correctly in the article.

Birthplace given as Virginia on one census however son says on his census his mother was born in NC> Boundaries in those early days changed often. Francis was a spinner according to 1850 Census and died prior to 1860 when William Smith takes a new wife Pasilde. An interesting note on the brother of Sarah “Frankie” Creekmore“ . She has a brother named Henry Newton. Creekmore. This name is not only carried through in the next generation when Frankie names a son Henry Newton but in the next generation when Frankie's granddaughter Elizabeth “Lizzie” Smyth names a son Henry Newton Seymour.
