In 1910 this family is living on 1rst Street N W in the District of Columbia. Eugene is a furniture house collector. This family is in Baltimore City Maryland in Baltimore County in 1920. Eugene is a salesman for the gas company and states his parents were both born in South Carolina.however his mother was definitely from South Carolina and his father as far as I can tell was born in Georgia. This is all too common on census's. And in family genealogies. People did not often realize where their parents were born. Also take into account that if his wife answered the door she may have had no clue where his parents were born or even met them. It is important to note that by 1910 perhaps even sooner than that when Eugene is married to Lena , Eugene's parents and brothers and sisters were living in South Carolina having moved from Georgia. Indeed both of Eugene's parents are listed as having died in South Carolina. (Death dates from index of South Carolina official death index online). So most of Eugene's family was definitely in South Carolina and Lena may have assumed that both his parents were born there, thus erroneously putting Eugene's father's birthplace in South Carolina and not the proper Georgia. There are at least six instances on this entire genealogy where children vary parents birthplaces on census's 10 years apart and siblings differ as to their opinion of where parents are born. There is a slight difference in the census's as to when Eugene was born. In 1910 he claims he is 39 making him born around 1871., On the 1920 Census he is 52 making him born closer to 1868 However his first childhood census shows him born in around 1874. as census's closer to childhood are often most correct And I have used this date. . I have used a death date of 1920-1930 because his wife and children are on the 1930 census and he is not and he is not anywhere in the US in 1930 Census.

Lena's parents are born in Virginia according to the 1920 Census where she resides with her husband and children in Baltimore City, Maryland Lena's age varies a bit. On the 1910 Census she is 30 making her birth year around 1880 and in 1920 she is 42 making it closer to 1878. She states on the 1910 Census she has given birth to 3 children and 3 are currently living which means the gap between the children is just that a gap and no additional children that died were born in between. There are nine years between the first and second child and after that she has many additional children. Lena apparently is widowed by 1930 as she her daughter Mary, son Leslie and two twin daughters Virginia and Marion are living in Baltimore City and although she states she is married not widowed, this is common enough on a census. I have seen this often enough after the husband dies. There is not a listing anywhere in the US for a Eugene Garlington , so it is safe to assume he has passed away by 1930
