John LT COWELL & Charlotte J DUFF
Father: John LT COWELL, b. ABT 1833, Pennsylvania or Alabama
This family is on the 1870 Census in Greene County Boone township with another son William. Additionally we see CJ's name is Charlotte. Strangely , John says he was born in Alabama and Charlotte's birthplace is given as Tennessee. Perhaps in the boarding house in 1880, the person who answered the door guessed on their birthplaces. However, on later census John and Charlotte's children either don't know where they were born or they put the words US on several census'.s On son Albert's death certificate his wife Julia does not even know the name of his parents. And on Barnabus's death certificate he gives his parents birthplace as both being born in Illinois. In Charlottes obit it clarifies birthplace as Illinois even giving the county as Clinton County and her marriage to John Cowell In Randolph County Illinois saying they moved to Greene County Missouri in 1866 and then to Lawrence County Missouri in 1893.Needless to say all other info fits so this is the same family in 1870 and 1880 Census. .1880 Census in the home of Swinney Family see below J.
