John Brown RITCHIE, (son of Thomas RITCHIE), b. 28 Dec 1832, Forfarshire now Angus County Scotland, d. 20 Aug 1856, Stirling Scotland
John Ritchie's birth year is from the extracted file of births at Family Search and stays rather consistent on the census's within a year or two. Family lore has it that Margaret Ritchie had a brother who went to Edinburgh University, graduated and became a professor there. However he is a clerk at the time of his death in 1856 in Stirling Scotland. John dies a single man and he dies of phrentis which is a non existent diagnosis,in this day and age. At that time it was a disease supposedly caused by overstudying and nervousness. The closest thing to phrnetis these days would be encephalitis. The death certificate details his inflammation of the brain. He is buried in St John's cemetary in Stirling. Remarks: An apparent error by the Registrar in relation to the date of registration. Entry also shows that deceased was buried at Stirling .? .Burial Place (Writing indecipherable in parts).
