Father: Thomas RITCHIE, (son of John RITCHIE), b. 3 Apr 1803, Forfar Forfarshire Scotland, d. 10 Jan 1865, Forfar Forfarshire Scotland

Thomas Ritchie was born in the year 1803 to John Ritchie and Mary Marnie (sometimes spelled Marnoe or Marno). His age on census's vary a bit but this is not unusual. I have taken his extracted birth record from Family Search as his exact date of birth. He had one brother named George.Thomas lists his occupation on all census's 1841, 1851 1861 Forfarshire census as Linen Hand Loom Weaver. He married Catherine Carnegie on Nov 18 ,1827 in Forfar Angus Scotland. Record reads “Forfar. 1827. Nov. 18th. “Thomas Ritchie, Weaver, & Catherine Carnegie, both in this parish were proclaimed in order to marriage & were afterwards married.” On his daughter's marriage certificate in 1864,Thomas Ritchie is listed as a Linen Weaver.Linen or Loom weaving was something of a Carnegie/Ritchie family tradition Thomas dies of liver disease on Jan 10 1865. His son in law Daniel signs his death certificate ,on this certificate his parents are proved as John Ritchie and Mary Marnie ,All census's below 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 Piece: SCT1841/288 Place: Forfar-Angus Enumeration District: 4 Civil Parish: Forfar St James Ecclesiastical Parish, Village or Island: Forfar St James Folio: 5 Page: 12 Address: High Street Pyots Close

Mother: Catherine CARNEGIE, (daughter of John CARNEGIE), b. 30 Jan 1806, Rescobie Angus Scotland, d. 28 Dec 1873, Forfar Forfarshire Scotland

Catherine Carnegie Ritchie is very consistent on all census's as for birth year 1806 and place Rescobie Angus,. Actual date found on familysearch and confirmed by Genforum post which confirms this plus adds her brothers names. Her mother Isabel “Elizabeth” Pyott dies before 1812 when her father John remarries Mary Jane Stevenson. She seems to have lived at 64 East High Street and Post Office Lane in Forfar.after her marriage to Thomas Ritchie. . Her occupation listed as Linen Hand Loom Weaver. Catherine dies on Dec 28 1873 in Forfar of senile decay. Her parents are proved as John Carnegie and Isobel Pyott.on her death certificate Daniel McDonald her son in law signs her death certificate. Catherine is also at the source of a family mystery. In the Daniel McDonald bible(her son in law) there is a notation that Catherine and Margaret Carnegie were related. This is said to have been the connection that points to Andrew Carnegie on the family tree. However, at this time, there is no known connection and reference remains vague. The family tree was said to have been done around 1900 by Daniel's brother Andrew McDonald of Cook County Illinois. It is on this tree, which has not been viewed by any living relative that Mary Queen of Scots,is listed as being connected to the Stewart/McDonald line. Andrew Carnegie and Jeanette MacDonald the singer and actress are also said to appear. Andrew Carnegie is a possible, as his ancestors are said to have come from Forfarshire and moved to Fife where he was born in 1835, Mary Queen of Scots is impossible, see Daniel's notes and no info is available on Jeanette MacDonald except that she was supposed to be third or fourth cousin of Ann Stewart McDonald Whalen.
