116. Noah Seymour
116. NOAH6 SEYMOUR (William5, John4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at New Hartford, Conn., 10 Nov. 1759, died at Sodus, N.Y., 26 Mar. 1832; married at New Hartford, 17 Dec. 1784, MIRIAM5 KELLOGG, born at New Hartford, 6 Sept. 1765, died at Sodus, 11 Jan. 1846, daughter of Capt. Noah4 (Isaac3, Samuel2, Joseph1) and Clemence (Merrill).
He served as a Private in 1777 in Capt. Abel Pettibone's Co., Brig.- Gen. Wolcott's Regt., Peekskill Campaign, and in 1778 for nine months as Orderly Sergeant in Capt. Amasa Mills' Co., Col. Roger Enos' Regt., serving on the Hudson; afterwards he enlisted in Capt. Elijah Seymour's Co. of Dragoons and served as Orderly Sergeant for six months.
He removed about 1812 to Sodus, Wayne Co., N.Y. The author well remembers that when he was a young man his father made a brief visit to his relatives in Wayne County, and was impressed with the beauty and fertility of their fine farms. The author made a “sentimental journey” in 1936 to the burial place of his great- grandfather and great-grandmother, and could not help feeling that they had done well in participating in the westward movement as so many families did after the Revolutionary War.
The inscriptions on the stones of Noah and his wife in Huron Evergreen Cemetery, next to the Town of Wolcott, N.Y., read:
