218. Isaac Newton Seymour

218. ISAAC NEWTON7 SEYMOUR (Jesse6, William5, John4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at Stillwater, Saratoga County, N.Y., in 1795; married ELVIRA BELKNAP.

He removed to Newburgh and New York, N.Y. He served in the War of 1812, enlisting Sept. 1814 in the New York Militia. Before he was 25 years of age, was appointed Deputy Sheriff of Orange County, N.Y. In 1825, on organization of the Delaware & Hudson Canal Co., he entered its New York office, and a few years later was elected treasurer, serving the company until 1869, a period of 44 years.
