August seems to be the first child born in the New World as he is listed as being born in Wisconsin on both 1860 and 1880 Census. In 1880 he is in Sibley County Minnesota with his wife and children. (See below census), August and Bertha are found as a married couple in 1880 in Transit, Sibley County Minnesota. At that time they have only two daughters Martha and Josephine. and son Albert. . He is in Yellow Medicine County Minnesota Echo township in 1900 with wife and further children. children Lizzie, Selma, Alma and Benno. His other children Albert and Amanda are living on their own together in a household in the same county. in 1900. August's middle initial is clarified on the 1900 Census as H. August now realizes his father and mother were both born in Germany and not Wisconsin by 1900. An ancestral file gives his exact birth and death date. Below 1880 Census transcript , In 1910 August and Bertha are living in Yellow Medicine County Minnesota with their remaining children Selma and Benno. In 1920 he is living with his daughter Amanda and son in law John C Braun in Renville County Minnesota as a widower, . Bertha having obviously died by then. In 1930 he is living with John C Braun and his daughter Amanda only they have changed counties to Sibley. Mother: Bertha — Moss, b. Nov 1854, Prussia, d. 10 Oct 1919, Rennville County Minnesota
.According to the Minnesota death index online at Minnesota Historical society, Bertha passes away on Oct 10 1919. While the ancestral file has her maiden name as Moats, on the death certificate index for her son Albert C it lists his mother's maiden name as spelled Moss. These are quite close in spelling so her last name could be either one. However, Albert's death certificate confirms his mothers name and also fits in perfectly with Albert as a child in 1880 Census.
