25. Zebulon Seymour

25. ZEBULON4 SEYMOUR (John3, John2, Richard1), of Hartford, Conn., joiner, born at Hartford 14 May 1709, died there 3 Feb. 1765, in his 65th year.1) He married at Hartford, 7 June 1733, KEZIAH4 BULL, who died at New Hartford, Conn., where her daughter Keziah was then living, 4 Jan. 1800, aged 87, daughter of Daniel3 (Joseph2, Thomas1) and Mary (Mygatt) and sister of Mary Bull who married Capt. Jonathan Seymour (23), a brother of Zebulon.

Zebulon Seymour was a selectman of Hartford, 1750-1, and held other offices in the town government; He was employed in 1761 to build the meeting-house in Windsor, Conn.

In his will, dated 27 Dec. 1764 and proved 5 Mar.1765, he calls himself “weak in body,” and names wife Keziah, sons Zebulon and Aaron, and daughters Keziah, Margaret, Abigail, wife of Joseph Humphrey, Esther, Christian, Anne, Prudence, and Lucy. Distribution of the estate was made 18 Mar. 1772 between the widow, Keziah, the eldest son, Zebulon, the youngest son, Aaron, the eldest daughter, Keziah Seymour, daughters Margaret, wife of Barzillai Hudson, Esther, wife of John Brace, Abigail, wife of Joseph Humphrey, Christian Seymour, Anne Seymour, Prudence Seymour, and the youngest daughter, Lucy Seymour.

He was a Sergeant in the South Company of the town of Hartford, Col. Newberry's Regt., serving in the Continental Army near New York in 1776, and while there was summoned home to his wife's sick-bed. He m. (2) 11 Feb. 1779, Hannah (Bunce) Watson,2) b. at Lebanon, Conn., 28 Dec. 1749, d. at Hartford 27 Sept. 1807.

This child was baptized in the South Church, Hartford, by the minister of the West Hartford (Conn.) church, who recorded the baptism in his own church records. The church records of the South or Second Church of Hartford between 1730 and 1791 are missing. They must have contained the baptisms of many Seymour children during that period.
