229. ALEXANDER7 SEYMOUR (Norman6, Timothy5, Timothy4, John3, John2, Richard1), born at West Hartford, 5 Oct. 1784, died at Cleveland, Ohio, 8 Aug. 1850; married first, 1 Feb. 1813, MARY ANN BISSELL; married second, Sept. 1821, HESTER LANSING, born in 1793, died at Cleveland, 8 July 1839, daughter of Cornelius and Hester (Vanderheyden) of Lansingburgh, N.Y.
He settled as a merchant in Utica, N.Y., until 1834, and was afterwards a banker in Cleveland, Ohio. He was at the head of the Board of Health in Cleveland at the time of the cholera epidemic. He gave unstinted service to the people, was exhausted and died as the epidemic passed; the poor attended his funeral by hundreds.
