31. Ensign Joseph Seymour
31. ENSIGN JOSEPH SEYMOUR (Zachariah3, John2, Richard1), was baptized at Hartford, Conn., 14 July 1728. He married ABIGAIL HOWARD, baptized at Hartford 17 Nov. 1728, daughter of Samuel and Alice (Hooker) and sister of Samuel Howard, Jr., who married Anne5 Seymour (30, i).
In 1754 Joseph Seymour was living at Hartford, according to conveyances of land made by himself and wife Abigail. Soon afterwards he removed to Windsor, Conn. In Feb. or Mar. 1766 he settled in that territory owned by Windsor which was incorporated in 1779 as the town of Colebrook, Conn., being called the third settler in that place, where he was admitted freeman 10 Apr. 1780. In Oct. 1774 his name appears, in a list of commissioned officers, as Ensign of a company in Colebrook in the Eighteenth Regiment. In the Connecticut Census of 1790 the family of Joseph is given as consisting of 2 males over 16 and 4 females.
